Anglesey hasunspoiled agricultural land; cattle and sheep are still farmed bytraditional methods. Dairy farming has been part of theagriculture of Anglesey for centuries. Wheat and barley are stillgrown and market garden products such as leeks, brassicas, herbsand soft fruit also enjoy the kind climate of Anglesey. It wasGerald of Wales (Gerallt Gymro), who at the end of the twelfthcentury, quoted the island's age-old name Mon Mam Cymru - Monathe mother of Wales. Gerald recorded that "When crops havefailed in all other regions, this island, from the richness ofits soil and its abundant produce, has been able to supply allWales" .
