Menter Môns Language Project is designed to increase the use of the Welsh language on the island. This is done by working closely with businesses, voluntary organisations, community groups and the tourism sector. The main projects can be seen below:
Welsh in Business brokerage: Research shows that there is a marketing benefit to using Welsh in Business. The aim of this project is to convenience the process of adopting bi-lingualism. Anglesey has a wealth of talented performers. The aim of establishing an agency on their behalf is to encourage local hotels and public houses to use them so as to raise tourists awareness of the indigenous culture. Welcome Pack for Immigrants: Anglesey has suffered due to immigration in the past. A lack of understanding of the local community can lead to ill-feeling and conflict. The aim of the Welcome Pack is to introduce the island to immigrants the language, the history, the education system and the culture. In order for learners to raise their confidence, it is important that they have a chance to speak the language outside of the classroom. The aim of the Holiday Pack is to give learners a chance to practice their language whilst staying in a Welsh Farmhouse on Anglesey, and visit local attractions. Translation in the Community: In order to establish a totally bi-lingual community, translators on paper and on-the-spot translation is needed. The aim of this project is to develop appropriate courses for members of the public. As well as the main projects, the Language Officer collaborates on a number of other projects. The visitation of the National Eisteddfod has sparked a flurry of activity through the medium of Welsh. The hope is for the activity to continue after August 1999. If you have any questions or suggestions for more projects, the Language Officer, Dafydd Gruffydd, will be more than happy to discuss them with you. Contact : Dafydd Gruffydd, |
