Anglesey Railway Centre
In June 1996, Lein Amlwch (Isle of Anglesey Railways Ltd) opened a railway centre in the old station building in Station Yard, Amlwch. The centre offers a wealth of information on the local railway scene, and has a superb selection of working model layouts. One of the layouts is built in the smallest gauge of all ("N"), while another is in the familiar "double O" gauge, and a third is in the famous pre-war "three-rail" format, with the electric current being picked up from the centre rail. The "N" gauge has special controls which allow it to be "driven" by visitors - a sure attraction for children (especially adult children!).

Various locomotive name-plates are on show. One has been lent by Associated Octel (who for many years used the line to carry products to and from its works), and comes from one of the diesel engines which worked the line ten years ago - unfortunately, this engine has now been scrapped. Another name-plate comes from a famous Patriot-class locomotive, " Bangor ".

Lein Amlwch, which operates the centre on a voluntary basis from among its 100 members, has been negotiating for some time to acquire the old Gaerwen-Amlwch branch line, which is some 17.5 miles in length. The community business believes that there is considerable tourist potential in reopening a steam service along one of the most scenic routes in Wales, with diesel trains providing additional commuter services.
