Môn Mam Cymru   Môn Mam Cymru
Menter Mon, with the co-operation of a group of the island's food processors and producers, has developed a brand designed to highlight the fact that the food product is a high-quality one sourced and processed in Anglesey, which has a strong tradition of balanced agriculture.

Food production is already worth £270m to the local economy, and Menter Mon's June 1996 study found that the island is one of the most important food-processing regions in the country, accounting for 14% of the business in Wales. Food processing turnover in Anglesey (some £170m in 1996) has doubled since 1992. Food production turnover in 1996 was some £100m. Approximately 2,600 people are employed in production, and 700 in processing.

Activities to support the Mon Mam Cymru brand will include the development of photographic libraries for use in promotional campaigns on behalf of the island's producers, and also the development of point-of-sale merchandising and support material. The aim is to contribute towards raising food processing turnover to £286m by the end of the millenium, and creating 240 new jobs.

Môn Mam Cymru Food Marketing   Marchnata Bwyd Môn Mam Cymru
The Aim is to develop a generic, Anglesey wide food marketing strategy and support mechanism within the county’s farmers and food processors.

It will also provide support for the increased use of the Môn Mam Cymru brand within campaigns to promote new and established food businesses, and encourage the catering and hospitality sectors to use and promote local food produce.

Objective

  • Develop the Anglesey Food Festival
  • Organise campaigns to promote greater awareness and utilisation of local produce in hotels, pubs etc, so that Môn Mam Cymru concept permeates through from primary to tertiary levels
  • Encourage and support the development of industry wide co-operative marketing plans
  • Take Anglesey food products, in co-operation with the private and farming sector, into the exhibition halls of the UK
  • Secure optimum usage of the Anglesey Food Hall as a marketing focus for Ynys Môn produce
