The corner-stones of an agricultural way of life are to be seen everywhere - from the inland cornfields, set amongst trees and hedgerows, to the coastal pastures dotted with lambs, and from the whitewashed cottages of the small holdings, to the 'home farms' of the great country estates. Holidaymakers will find the islands lovely coast - much of it an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - includes some of Europe's most thrilling beaches. It is said that Anglesey's history is written in stone. Prehistoric burial chambers and tall standing stones evoke ancient mysteries. Roman walls tell a tale of bitter conquest, and the little churches and chapels are a reminder of the fifth century saints. Archaeologists are beginning to reveal the influence of the Welsh Princes on medieval life, and the ramparts of Beaumaris Castle are reminders of the invader from over the border. Plas Trefarthen stands in 200 acres of land on the shore of the Menai Straits and is a large Georgian farmhouse dating back to 1820. The house has panoramic views of Caernarfon Castle, which dates back to the 13 th Century, and the majestic mountain range dominated by the mighty Snowdon itself. Beautiful Llanddwyn beach and Menai Bridge, only six miles away make this an ideal base for touring. Local attractions include Anglesey Sea Zoo, Foel Farm attraction, a 9-hole golf course , horse riding, fishing , and Plas Newydd., the exquisite home of the Marquis of Anglesey, now owned by the National Trust. The area has several ancient monuments including Bryn Celli Ddu and Bodowyr Fawr. The elegant proportions of the house and its beautiful setting are matched by the warmth of the welcome received within. Guests are catered for in a happy family atmosphere and are soon made to feel at home in their surroundings by their host Marian Roberts.
Most of the seven spacious bedrooms have private bathrooms with razor points and are fully centrally heated. There is a colour television plus tea making facilities and hair dryer in each room, and downstairs there is separate dining room with baby grand piano, and a well appointed guest lounge. There is also a ground floor double room with an en suite bath.
Mrs Marian Roberts, your Welsh speaking host, is a noted soprano soloist who has performed all over the world with the Welsh choirs.
