Where is Gwynle Bakery ? |
Gwynle Bakery is a small family businesslocated in Amlwch, the most northerly town in Wales, on thebeautiful Isle of Anglesey, which is separated from mainlandWales by the Menai Straits. Amlwch was famous in the 1800s, beingat one time the world's largest producer of copper, which wasmined from Parys Mountain, in whose shadow the town lies. In morerecent times, Amlwch became famous for siting the largestoff-shore buoy in the world. Sited some 3 miles out to sea, thisbuoy accommodated some of the world's biggest oil tankers, whosecargo was transferred to the holding tanks at Rhosgoch, which isabout 2 miles from Amlwch. From here, the crude was pumped to therefineries at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. With the decliningdemand for oil related products, the tank farm was closed and thebuoy towed away for scrap.
Established more than 50 years ago, GwynleBakery has been under the present ownership for 23 years. Duringthis latter period, the business has expanded to own 2 retailshops in addition to the wholesale and retail van delivery roundsthat already existed. Gwynle Bakery is known throughout Angleseyfor its use of top quality ingredients to produce delicious breadand confectionery at reasonable prices. It is famous for its BaraBrith, which has been sent to many corners of the world. Apartfrom our own two shops, we also wholesale to a number of shops onthe Island and have retail home delivery rounds to many parts ofAnglesey.
