Community Buildings Grant Scheme

A new community buildings grant scheme has been announced to maintain the village / community halls as a crucial cornerstone of community life.

Run by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), the Community Buildings Grant Scheme is being funded by the National Assembly for Wales. £200,000 will be available in the first year of the scheme. Initially, it will provide grants for 40
village / community halls, supporting projects costing between £5,000 and £20,000 by up to 65% of the total project costs. At least 10% of the costs must be provided by the applicant's own funds, local fundraising, or volunteer work in kind
contribution, to demonstrate local commitment and support.

The aim is to support schemes that mainly rely on volunteers to run and manage them, such as small-scale projects that will help existing village / community halls to undertake essential repairs to maintain and sustain existing activities and improvements to help them respond to new needs in their communities.

Applications are invited from voluntary organisations who either own or have a lease with a remaining tenure of 15 years, are independent of the statutory or private sectors and who have a recognised legal constitutional status.
