Objective 1:
warm welcome for spending review
It has recently been announced that no voluntary organisation will miss out on Objective 1 money, because of a lack of match funding.
Welsh Secretary Paul Murphy’s assurance of match funding for all worthwhile Objective 1 projects, was hailed as good news for voluntary and community groups.
‘The statement has helped to lift the uncertainty about match funding for groups with project proposals that can help the regeneration of their communities’ said
Phil Jarrold from Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
‘His assurances are very positive, but it is essential that the money is equally available to all projects supported by Objective 1, we are waiting to see the detailed figures, but it now seems clear that the match funding issue will not delay the implementation of the programme’

Important Information for
TEC Customers
On 1 st April 2001, the four Training and Enterprise Councils in Wales, including CELTEC will be abolished.
They will be merged with the Further Education Council for Wales to form the new ‘National Council for Education and Training in Wales’
The Government and National Assembly for Wales have decided that there is a need to improve the structure for the funding, and delivery, of education and training in Wales. It is hoped that the agreed changes will result in closer integration of education and training.
The New Council will work closely with a newly formed partnership of organisations and individuals with an interest in local training and education matters, i.e. local education authorities, further education, schools, and training suppliers.
These partnerships will be called the Community Consortia for Education and Training. (CCETs).

The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales
The organisation dates back to 1923 when the collier’s in the South Wales Valleys needed to develop a provision for the young men who were working for them.
The original idea was to give the young men a suitable diversion and constructive leisure time pursuits.
Over the years the organisation developed, by today it is called the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales.
In October 1999, the North Wales Development Project started, to establish a volunteer support network in the mainly rural areas of North Wales, which currently lack or have very minimal youth work provision.
They intend to encourage local rural communities to form Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs in consultation with local authorities, voluntary councils, community councils, the Sports Council for Wales and other agencies.
Two voluntary District Management committees have been set up, one to include Ynys Môn, Gwynedd, and Conway, the other to include Wrexham, Flintshire, and Denbighshire – volunteers are needed to join these committees which meet once a month.
If you would like more information about the project:
Contact: Katy Connolly on or Rhiannon Davies on for more information.

LOCAL INFORMATION
Holy Island Partnership
The Holy Island Partnership, with representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors, has been created as part of the Objective 1 (European Funding)
programme. It is concerned with social development and economic regeneration of the local area. In accordance with European regulations we have to consult widely with the local population. One of the first things we will be doing is a " Planning for the Future " exercise where on the 12th, 13th and 14th of October members of the local community will be invited to come along to the Town Hall in Holyhead to discuss potential improvements for Holy Island. It is hoped that as many people as possible will attend.
A large scale 3D model of the island will be made by local school children, which will give a birds-eye view of the whole community. Suggestions for improvements in the area will be made by placing option cards on the model. The suggestions and comments will be collated, and a comprehensive report will be produced outlining the outcome of the exercise. It will also be summarised in the press in due course. The outcomes from this exercise will be used in support of future funding applications for local development.
To encourage as many people as possible to take part in the exercise we are putting together a "free" raffle -the prize will be well worth the effort! Everyone who attends will be eligible to take part, and the prize will be drawn on the Saturday afternoon.

Volunteer Bureau IT Project
This Volunteer Bureau together with all the other 31 vbx in Wales will in October, as part of the Government’s Active Community initiative, receive from Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) an up to date computer equipment and internet access. Volunteer management software will also be installed so that vbx can keep track of the hundreds of volunteering opportunities available where this information will eventually form the basis of a volunteering web-site for Wales.
Enabling the general public to access information on the kinds of voluntary work available in their local area and to link up directly with the local vbx is a major step forward. The project will surely help to increase the number of people getting involved in their communities through volunteering. To make sure you’re included in this new scheme please make sure you have registered with this Bureau . We shall be contacting our members in due forth.
