Dan Do Môn Issue Number 18

The Newsletter for voluntary organisations on Anglesey
Charity Number Issue No. 18 May 2000

Anglesey Objective 1 Partnership

Objective 1 projects have to be implemented through local Partnerships, whose membership is composed of:

One third voluntary sector organisations
One third public bodies, which includes Colleges and local authority
One third social partners, which includes Trade Unions.

Ensuring the involvement of the Sector. YMVS has been asked to undertake the process of selecting the community and voluntary sector representation for this group.
In organising this we will be trying to ensure broad representation of the sector.
We have set up an Objective 1 Community Regeneration Task Group in order to ensure that information is widely disseminated, and that views can be fed into the local Partnership.

How will the local Partnership work? Following recent meetings of the local steering group for the strategy, which has included a YMVS representative, a framework document and delivery mechanism was adopted.
20 members from each of three sectors noted above will be represented on the Full Partnership.

It is envisaged that 6 members will eventually represent the voluntary sector organisations on the Objective 1 Steering Group.

Late News: CHARITIES BOARD ISSUE FUNDING WARNING

The Charities Board in Wales is issuing a warning to voluntary groups to prepare realistically for their future.

This year there will be less money for the Charities Board in the UK as a whole so Wales will also receive less money. The money for SMALL GRANTS will be protected, the shortage will be felt in the main grants allocation which will be reduced by £3.5 million to £18.5 million.

Roy Norris - Director of the Charities Board in Wales explained "We want people to understand that we have a limited amount of money and that hard decisions have to be made. To small organisations we can say that SMALL GRANTS funds should be enough to meet demand. Most of our main grants will go to new initiatives within the community. It does worry us that groups seeking follow-on funding may depend on us too much, especially if other funding options fail. There will be strong competition for limited funds, that is why I want to warn groups to plan carefully and realistically for the future".

Groups seeking application forms from the Charities Board grants or further information should call or contact Mari or Derlwyn at the office on .

It will be transported down to Cardiff by Tuesday, June 6th 2000 to be assembled outside the National Assembly with the other pieces of jigsaw to form a giant map of Wales which will signify the commitment of the Assembly and Assembly Members to volunteering and the voluntary sector. Is your organisation interested in taking up the ‘short or long distance transport challenge’ for this piece of jigsaw? This national activity is being co-ordinated by Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
3pm-5pm - A thank you ‘Volunteers Afternoon Tea’ has been arranged for volunteers nominated by voluntary/statutory/private groups on Anglesey where Certificates will be presented in recognition of their hard work and commitment they show when carrying out their voluntary duties.
