Community enterprises

The economic viability of rural communities is increasingly under threat, as is the accessibility of local services. The voluntary sector has a substantial role to play in those communities which have a strong collective will to reverse the process and improve local facilities. Activities in the community suitable for community enterprise progression can vary from biomass production schemes to home help services. Common to all is the potential for employment creation and the mechanism for a greater degree of self-determination.

Llanddaniel Community Post Office

One manifestation of rural economic decline is the closure of village shops and post offices, and the resultant death of commercial vitality. This project is aimed at tackling this problem in one Anglesey village, and may provide a model for other locations.

Cwmni Cemaes Cyf

Cemaes is one of the most northerly villages in Anglesey, and the community there has decided to seek to improve the local economy by encouraging more people to come and spend time in the village. Apart from the international Celtic Festival of Music is planned for this summer (click for more information), Cwmni Cemaes has established a new heritage centre and published a booklet about the local area.
