Menternet links: Travel

  Bargainholidays.com

This is another example of the Web doing something that is simply impossible using traditional means. This site claims to be the UK's biggest live database of over 70,000 late-availability holiday deals from all of the UK's top tour companies. You can send an e-mail enquiry for more information about a particular holiday, and you can also phone (up until 10.00pm weekdays!) to book. Supporting sections in the site give details about airports and also resort information; although this is fairly basic, you can also supplement it by using the site's bookstore to get more information. The one drawback is that the details don't include the name of the carrier or holiday company, which might be relevant in some circumstances.
Railtrack Travel Information

A superb example of the Web doing something that traditional media cannot do. This online rail timetable gives you times, connections, etc for any rail journey you care to specify in GB.
This is London (Evening Standard Online)
www.thisislondon.co.uk
The online version of the London daily, this site also contains an immense amount of information about travelling around London, events that are on, and tourist attractions in general. There is a very good section focussing on children's London, which would be well worth a look before you get on the train with your brood. Also check out the new pages devoted to hotel bookings in London - the amount of information for each hotel varies, but you can search by area and price.
