BBC News
www.news.bbc.co.uk BBC News is a free continuous news service on the Internet, which, unlike many other similar sites, carries no advertising. It publishes a variety of news stories as they break, with background analysis where possible. Over 40 journalists and web designers are responsible for the site, dealing with stories fed in by the BBC's 2,000 news staff worldwide. Le Monde www.lemonde.fr If you are going to France and want to brush up your French, what better way than a good read of the latest news. This online version of one of France's most important newspapers will fill you in on all things Gallic. Unfortunately, only the main stories are free - more detailed stories require a subscription. NewsNow www.newsnow.co.uk This is an excellent "news aggregation" site, which grabs headlines from over 30 daily news sources and sorts them into sections. The headlines are updated every 5 minutes, and clicking on the section headings on the home page takes you to a whole list of recent stories, sorted by how recent they are. Once you click on a headline, you are taken to the full story in the relevant news source. A great resource for catching up on the latest news. The Times www.the-times.co.uk A very effective online version of the Thunderer. Access is free, but you have to register first. Virtually all of the content of the printed paper is here in one form or another, and it is also possible to access the online version of the Sunday Times. |
